Why Destiny 2 still continues to be a pinnacle in looter-shooters

Destiny 2 is not just simply a game, it is an experience. An experience that comprises all the elements from all the popular game genres, presented in a compact manner. Destiny 2 begins with the resurrection of the player who is also a guardian and is called upon duty to fight against the enemy faction (Cabal) who have besieged the last city. The Cabal have managed to sever the connection between the guardians and their source of power (Traveler). The campaign takes us through the struggle of finding and reconnecting with our power by making contact with a shard of the Traveler.
As a storytelling medium, nothing comes close to the potential of Video Games. Destiny 2 stands true to this belief of mine as it consists of excellent lore, character arc, musical scores and cinematics which amplify the experience of the player. In a gist, the game progresses its current story through each season gradually. The DLC accompany heavy story progressions, character arcs, plot twists and much more.

The latest DLC dictates that a source of power for a guardian is not just the ‘Light’. ‘Darkness’ can be used as an ally too. It doesn’t matter Light or Dark, it all depends on the power bearer.
The game primarily classified as ‘Looter-Shooter’ or even ‘MMORPG’. Each season presents new loot to grind for. The weapon systems are extremely unique and each exotic weapon has its own vibe and feels distinctive. These exotic weapons coupled with exotic armour pieces contribute to uniquely beautiful synergy. Such synergy can even be found within the 3 classes in the game i.e Hunter, Titan and Warlock. Each one has a different super and the squad composition can be managed to prove beneficial to the whole team. Dying too much? Create a survival/ healing loadout. Are enemies too aggressive? Compose a debuffing/suppressor loadout. Need to do damage to the boss? Get a DPS heavy team.
With any looter-shooter games, comes the grind to search for the best and most efficient weapon load-outs. In short, you can run a mission n-number of times but still not get the loot of your choice. The main enemy in the game is RNG. Destiny, by design, tends to make players being as fast and as efficient as possible so you can run down missions quickly. Destiny also has PvP game modes in which you can test your mettle against other guardians. It also has a very unique PvPvE game mode called ‘Gambit’ in which you primarily fight AI enemies, but also enemy guardians can invade your arena and vice-versa.
In a nutshell, Destiny can provide a wholesome experience whether you are new to games or a veteran. Coupled with long-time support and new seasonal content, it follows a sustainable game model.

Besides the usual stuff, the game also suffers from bugs, often times extremely hilarious, here is an example:
